BREVET PHILIPPI
Brevet Philippi is an annual event following the development rules of cycling tourism set by the Brevet Randonneurs Mondiaux και Audax Club Parissien and is supervised by the Brevet Randonneurs Greece. The organization is under the international code “Brevet Philippi – Brevet Philippi” and has been officially licensed by the Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux (BRM) events and is included in the official ACP2 international calendar since January 2018.
Brevet Philippi is a 210 km historical route, passing through more than 20 local villages and the Municipalities of Kavala, Drama, Doksato, Prosotsani, Nea Zichni and Amphipolis. This cycling route unites some very important cultural, agricultural and environmental places, of which the most famous are the Archeological site of Philippi (Unesco World Heritage site), the Valley of Philippi and the Archaeological site of Amphipolis. The Brevet Philippi event aims to promote the Roman Battle of Philippi that took place at 42 b.C and was so important that changed the history of Democracy within Europe and the World.
AIM
The long term aim of this annual event is to strengthen the wider region in the context of cultural and sport tourism as it is a place with a rich geomorphological, cultural and environmental stock. The aim of the “Philippi Brevet” is to take advantage of the world-famous Battle of Philippi and to place the region, both in terms of sport and tourism, in the place it deserves, creating reputation, recognition, competitiveness, visibility, jobs, new entrepreneurship, profitability for all the stakeholders of the region.
These actions seek to build a distinct and clear identity of the event and the region, which will be consistently and continuously promoted to all channels of communication, by all actors and at every opportunity over time, with an organized marketing and communication plan. At the same time, this event creates unifying conditions for citizens and entrepreneurs in the region, cultivating the economic revival and social cohesion that our region needs.
The “Philippi Brevet” is an ambitious effort with international development goals around the Balkan and European countries, attracting visitors with sports and cultural interest and with an initial interest in cycling but also in other sports and cultural products. The products and services of the region are promoted through the mantle of culture and sport. During the event, local products are promoted, tourism and activities are provided by local gastronomy, tourism and entertainment businesses. Local communities participate and the cultural and environmental monuments of the wider region are dynamically promoted.
